2000 Michel & Stéphane Ogier Côte-Rôtie (JD -2/09)
Bright and high tone, the 2000 Ogier Cote Rotie holds true to the family style. Raspberry, violet and light gamy notes are accented by the “Ogier Perfume” that is so typical of syrah produced by Stephane Ogier and his father Michel before him. Medium in body, the tannin and acid backbone do not overwhelm the fruit. One note of interest is that although Stephane pumped up the style when he took over as winemaker of the family business, the 2000 is very much his father’s view of Cote Rotie. Elegant and feminine with impeccable balance, the wine is nevertheless big enough to require 8-10 more years before it’s even close to full maturity. Double Moe-Curley with clear triple Curley potential. Ogier continues to hit on all cylinders.
