1998 Lane Tanner Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley
Lane Tanner’s base Pinot. An early effervescence has finally departed this wine, leaving behind cherry fruit, a hint of forest floor, and Central Coast signature green tomato. There’s an odd little nuance in the aroma which I hesitate to describe; asafetida, maybe? Elegant and uncomplicated, nice drinking wine. I think it’s at its best right now; the other serious wine geek at the table thought another year or two wouldn’t hurt.
