1989 Meyney St-Estephe

Excellent Bordeaux character, that combination of Creme de Cassis and tobacco. It’s somewhat let down by a rather coarse tannic structure, but nonetheless, quite drinkable. A few more years wouldn’t hurt.

1990 La Conseillante

Two ‘90 Bordeaux were the same but different. The ‘90 Montrose and ‘90 La Conseillante were both big, ripe, and oaky, but the aroma and flavor profiles were quite different. The Conseillante showed more overtly fruity, too fruity, really, while the Montrose was more weedy (almost Napa mint, to me) and considerably rougher tannin, while still being pornographic in its extract level and ripeness. Both are still oozing puppy fat, so we won’t try that experiment again for a few years.

Chocolate-dipped pasilla pepper… or is it poblano? Good stuff, just outclassed by most of the others on the table.

1978 Talbot

Big surprise: a Talbot that shows used diaper smells. Maybe I’m a natural born father ‘cuz I like it, I like it. It’s herbal (falling short of veggie), it’s cedary, it’s very ripe, I love it. Runner up for Thunderbird Award.
